Gitanjali by Gurudev

A true master piece that won the First Nobel Prize in literature for India. Flowing out of the quill of the author who wrote the world's best National Anthem for India, the words in this book keep you lost for hours. If you try interpreting the verses of Gurdev, Rabindranath Tagore they give you myriad perspectives. They are undoubtedly unfathomable for a layman like me. Nevertheless,

A few articulations (my interpretations) I intend to share:

(1)
(Oh!! My Master/Nature/Love) You made me endless. Your touch made me lost in merry and my words inexplicable. You pour gifts in my tiny hands. You pour for eons. But still there is space to fill. That is your love for me.

(2)
(Oh!! My Master/Nature/Love) I feel proud when you command me to sing. Your presence vanishes the sourness and unrhythmic in my song.  I knew that song is the only means I can reach you.  Stupefied by the joy I call you my friend.

(3)
(Oh!! My Master/Nature/Love) I never able to understand your song, that illuminates this world with light, presents in breaths of all creatures, flows in the streams, rivers. I struggle to give my voice to your eternal song. My voice never turned into a song. I scream in bewilderment.

(4)
(Oh!! My Master/Nature/Love) Knowing it is you, who is present in my heart, in truth and in my body and limbs; who gives me strength, knowledge; I shall ever reveal you in all my actions.

(5)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) I ask my mind to indulge to sit by your side. I shall finish my current jobs later. When I can't see your face my heart becomes restless and  my works wanders in the shoreless ocean of toil. It is time to sit with you and sing in this silence and leisure.

(6)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) Reward this flower with a pain of plucking it with your hand. Pluck it before it loses place in your garland. It may not have the beauty and flagrance. However pluck it when there is still time.
(7)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) I don't adorn jewels (pride, money, and popularity) that interfere between you and me. They smear my songs for you with their jingling. My vanity must vanish before you. I let you make my life glorious, like a reed/bamboo carved to a flute.

(8)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) A child, wearing prince's robes and jewels can't play happily in fear of losing or tarnishing them. Let me play in the dust like a child, free from all bondage.

(9)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) What a fool I am to carry all the petty burdens upon my own shoulders feeling exhausted.  With these problems looming I beg at my own door. I must leave all the burdens and problems on you. I shall curtail all my desires and accept your offering with love.

(10)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) You stay with with the poorest and lost. Your feet lies with them. Though I genuflect in front of you I can't reach your feet. I can't find you blinded with pride where you live with your isolated, wretched companions.

(11)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) Saints and priests can't notice your absence inside the four walls. They live in an illusion that you hear their chants and prayers. They need to wake up and find you with a farmer sloughing the soil, labour breaking stones in a quarry. They need to give up their tidy robes to feel your presence in dirt and soil.

(12)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love)  The journey to find you is the toughest and trickiest of all. One has to wander all the outside world, knock each door in the path. Finally, to find you in one's own house, in one's own innermost shrine, heart.

(13)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) The song for you remains unsung. The lyrics could never be frozen; except the wailing of my heart. I heard your footsteps along the road before my home. I spent a day making arrangements for you. But I can't invite you to my home. I hope to meet you but not yet.

(14)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) You ever save me by refusing my many unworthy desires. For years, you make me worthy of simple, great gifts you render: the sky, light, my body, my mind, and the life.

(15)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) In your world my life is purposeless. In your massive hall I have the corner seat. Please honor me with your command to sing  at midnight or in the morning when your golden harp is tuned.

(16)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) I had the invitation to this world's festival. So I was born, I could hear, listen, and see. I played with the instrument (body and  mind) you blessed as far as I can. I ask you has the time arrived to see your face and offer my salutation?

(17)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) I wait for you to give myself up into your hands. People who bind me with laws, ask me to leave the market left in vain. They curse me, call me heedless. Still, I wait for you.

(18)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) In this rainy dark night why do you let me wait at your door? If you are not with me I am restive, wailing, and lost in your thoughts. If you keep me aside I can't figure out how to pass this long, rainy hours.

(19)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) If you don't speak I endure your silence in my heart. I look forward for the morning, that brings your voice to the birds' nests and your melodies to the blossoming flowers. I  wait like a vigilant night for the morning.

(20)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) When the lotus blossomed, I didn't know my basket was empty. Only now I felt sad realizing it. I woke up from the dream to fathom the sweet fragrance in the wind. I search for the source. I was in me, blossomed in the depth of my own heart.

(21)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) I have been waiting for you on the shore. The Spring being passed, I wait for you with faded flowers. The weathered yellow leaves fall along the clamorous shore. I gaze upon the emptiness not recognizing your song floating from the other shore.

(22)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) Today morning has closed its eye. Thick veil has been drawn over the wakeful sky. In the dark nights of rainy July, you walk as silent as night. All doors are closed along this deserted street. Oh my love, my doors are open. Don't pass by like a dream.

(23)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) Are you with me on this rainy night? I have not slept tonight. Once in a while I open my door and gaze upon the darkness, wondering which path are you treading to reach me. Which shore of the river, forest, and gloomy depth of the mazes are you tramping?

(24)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) When the day ends, birds fall silent, as you draw the blanket of sleep all across this world, as the lotus closes its petals, you come to me. From this wayfarer, who is running out of food and strength; whose clothes are unkempt and torn; renew him with your kind touch.

(25)

(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) You are the one who draws the veil of night upon the weary eyes to renew its sight to bright awakening. Let me keep my faith upon you before surrendering to sleep after an exhausting day. I wouldn't like to prepare for a worship with tired eyes.

(26)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) You had been sitting by my side whole night, playing revitalizing music. My dreams dance with your music though  the mighty sleep concurred me. In the morning, I cursed my sleep. I screamed in regret wondering, how could I lose you of whom I always dream about.

(27)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) Woes in my life wake me up, reminding  that you would be there with me forever. I search for you in a rainy night in desperate hope. Oh!! I forgot to lit my lamp. Lightening threatens me with a sparkling flash. Thunders frighten me with the intense roars. I lit my lamp with my desire and grope  for the path to reach you.

(28)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) Despite acknowledging the fact that you are the invaluable wealth I must have, I couldn't throw away the tawdry possessions. I am covered with dust and the death. Still believing you are my best friend I ask you timidly and shamelessly for your help.

(29)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) I am losing you because of a wall I am building around my true self for other earthly reasons such as: society, money, and success. I struggle to build it higher and higher so I lose the sight of my true self completely. I know my true self that carries my name is weeping in the dungeon.

(30)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) My true self (me) rushes to reach you, escaping from the dungeon. But I couldn't escape someone, follows me all along the path. He makes my path dirty and adds his filthy words to all I utter. He is my little self, who is brazen. But I am ashamed to come to you with him.

(31)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) I accumulate huge amounts of wealth, power and relationship because of you. One day I wake up from my bed to find me detained in my own coffer. I forge this unbreakable chain (responsibilities/craving for so many years), link by link with thorough inspection to bind this entire world, hold it with invincible power. When all the links were done and the chain is locked, It was too late to realize that I have been actually tied and enslaved for all these days.

(32)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) The love in this world imprisons me as long as I am committed; abandons me when I quit. But you love my lord is unconditional and sets me free.

(33)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) They (desires) begged for shelter in this unforgiving weather (society). They sat in the corner of my home, accepted whatever I fed. But at night when I am sleep they grow unstoppable and rob my holy shrine with their filthy hands.

(34)
(Oh! My Master/Nature/Love) Please don't let them (desires) conquer me completely. Please allow me to have a small hold on myself so that I can spell your name, see you in every object, reflect your presence inside me, bound by your will, and to carry out your purpose in my life.

(35)
(I am just not qualified to write my interpretation to the best ever)
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-widening thought and action-
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

From The Talks on The Gita by Vinoda (A Must Read)

Chapter 1 Arjuna's Despondency

The Ramayana and the Mahabharata are famous epics our country should ever feel proud of. Ramayana describes the ethics and the path of righteousness whereas Mahabharata describes the whole functioning of the society. Depicted by the Lengedary Veda Vyasa explains, various personalities, the weave of good and bad, God and Devil in each person like a fabric woven with black and white threads.

Every story should have a theme or motif behind the whole picture. In Mahabharata where is the central theme? What is the central idea that Vyasa tried to convey in whole Mahabharata? That is the Gita. The Gita has nothing to do with the great war (Kurukshethra). Arjuna's state wasn't fear or sentimental. It is described as delusion. He was ever willing to slay his kith and kin and never had fear as his partner. The state of the Arjuna is described as vishadha (despair). So this chapter is called Arjuna Vishad Yoga. In general Vishad Yoga.

Though I ain't support Arjuna on killing of his own great grand father, gurus, cousins and a lot of innocent people, moreover the methods he has adopted to achieve his ambitions, the Gita in common terms which is explained by Vinoba has a different perspective which is worth reading.

Honesty and Straightforwardness make one worthy to follow the message given in the Gita. In fact the word Arjuna itself means "A person who is honest and straightforward in nature".

Chapter 2: Self Knowledge and Equanimity

The Gita is like a case study in management courses, can have many interpretations where all of them are plausibly true. Some crazy people may come up with a different story as in "The Hare and The Tortoise (Win-Win Situation)" in management studies.

Once upon a time, when madness used to prevail in this universe, gods, demons and humans went to the creator (Brahma) together to seek advice for their advancement. The terrified Brahma pronounced a single syllable "da" as the advice to once may turn out to be predicament to the other and even proclaimed that single syllable would be the advice to all of them. As nobody could fathom the fear loomed on his four faces, they started narrating their own interpretations.

Gods said "Daman (subduing and conquering sensual pleasures)". Demons said "Daya (compassion towards others) as we are born to be cruel". Humans said "Dana (Charity and Sharing) as we are avarice in nature". The Creator applauded everyone for their keen intelligence, thinking "who knows what "Da" means anyways I am safe".

There are 3 principles that are elucidated in this chapter.

1. The Atman (the Self) is deathless and indivisible.
2. The body is insignificant and transient.
3. Swadharma must be followed.

For every living species Swadharma comes naturally like rising and setting of the Sun. Swadharma is like one's mother. It is predetermined, one can't chose her. In fact some say that the fulfillment of Swadharma is the sole purpose behind our birth. What about people who couldn't find their swadharma? How to find what is our swadharma?  are the questions for which answers are yet to be acquired.

One should remember that the Atman (the Self) is ever-lasting, all-pervading, imperishable unlike the feeble body. When death is inevitable why to mourn over one's death. Why does death cause grief. It doesn't mean that one has to be mean, heart-less. But true love emerges only when attachment to the body is overcome.

Brahman is the Absolute-the Supreme Truth, the Ultimate Reality. Brahman is the supreme principle, root cause of the generation, evolution and extinction of all the species. Brahman is supposed to have 3 aspects. 1) Sat, means abiding, actual, right, self-existence essence. 2) Chit, means knowledge, perception or consciousness 3) Ananda, means happiness, bliss. Our Atman is the part of Brahman whose ultimate aim should be the merging with Brahman. Means an Atman (the Self) has to achieve the state of Sat-Chit-Ananda.

Yoga means nothing but the art of translating the principles of life into practice. The best way to keep the principles in act is to give up the fruits of our actions. There 3 gunas (basic elements) in Sankhya Philosophy.
1) Rajas (Principle of Passion, desire) which says I shall act only if I am going to savor the fruition.
2) Tamas (Principle of inertia, Newton) which says I shall not act until unless I am going to savor the fruition.
3) Sattva (Principle of Balance) which says the only possible way to balance the action and desire is to renounce the fruition.

The whole concept behind this philosophy is to have an efficient action. A person having a desire on results loses at least a meager amount of time and concentration compared to a person having no eye on results. The latter showcase more efficiency compare to the former. A student worried about results eventually scores less than what he would have scored on the other way around. A person who just works for fun carries no pressure or panic in his mind leading to healthy living both mentally and physically. A child plays for merry gets the exercise without thinking much about it, his joy lies only in playing. If the act is your swadharma (which you are designed to do) and you do it with utmost attention by having no thoughts about the results will lead to the state of Samadhi (A Bliss).

End of the 2nd Chapter covers a concept called Sthitaprajna, means the one who has attained unwavering wisdom. The Sthitaprajna reaches the stable state of wisdom thereby becomes immovable by any emotions, desires and senses. He knows all the fundamental principles that drives his life and stays tuned to those principles. The Sthitaprajna uses his organs for the desire-less pursuit of Swadharma.

Chapter-3: Karmayoga (Yoga Of Selfless And Desireless Action)

No desire for fruits of action is the basis for karmayoga. This chapter expounds that renunciation of fruits would result in more and more benefits to the karmayogi, who pursues his/her swadharma. It is metaphorically explained while goddess Lakshmi marries Lord Vishnu, because Lord Vishnu isn't coveting her.

Infinite benefits will be showered only if the person follows Swadharma. The bonding and sentiments he/she possesses on his/her work defines the value of the benefits. It is elucidated in the sentiments carried in: idol worship; bathing in Ganga river; A few words from the beloved one compared to few pages from another person; an unselfish farmer.

A person who is attached deeply to his work by leaving the rest to the fate, obtains the greatest laurels ever. It is also quoted by Dr. Abdul Kalam in his 'Spirit of India' by a story. Sir C.V. Raman once received a call pleading him to attend a ceremony in New Delhi to receive the highest level of honor in India "The Bharat Ratna". He humbly denies it stating that he had promised one of his students that he would review his final thesis on the same day. For C.V. Raman receiving a prestigious award while the whole nation is watching seemed trivial compare to his Swadharma.

Such a desire-less pursuit of a Karmayogi brings him/her invaluable laurels, ironically about which he/she hardly bothers.

A X'mas to Remember (2011)

Fortunately it was a Sunday. Sunday sounds salubrious to us as it was the only weekend we get. On that day some of us go extremely crazy and adventurous. Where? How? When? are the questions never find answers on Sundays.  24th of December 2011, people in cities must be celebrating that night with candles and X'mas cakes. Despite being a jungle-lite I was planning for the usual stuff  (go to city, light a candle) till my cell-phone rang. I picked up and said "Hello". It was Harshal, one of my friends, six foot tall, fair and hefty.

Harshal: Hello Lokesh. What plans for tomorrow??
Me: Hii Harshal... Nothing dude. Perhaps to Raigarh to Church.
Harshal: Can we go somewhere? It has been a longtime since we trekked.
Me: Longtime?? I have been going on treks man. Covered many mountains here as well.
Harshal: Not about you dude. Remember!!! A year ago you used to take us to hills. That was awesome.
Me: Oh!! never been to jungle since then?
Harshal: You take your hostel mates. Seenu has been explaining your expeditions.
Me: Oh!! fine dude. This time you be the leader. Lead me to hills.
Harshal: All I can do is stay tonight in your hostel and wake up early provided you wake me up. Same with Seenu here. (Chukles)
Me: Sure. 5'0 clock tomorrow. Be ready.
Harshal: Gotcha!! Thanks. I couldn't resist the suspense where to?
Me: Ask seenu to get a bike. Where? you will see. Honestly, t I got no idea.
Harshal: You are crazy dude. See you tomorrow. bye..

My alarm rang exactly at 5AM on 25th of December 2011 waking me up from my dreams in a regular tune "One way One way" song in Gamyam (Telugu) movie. Just the lowest temperature for that day was occurring    nearly 5-6 degree Celsius. Everyone got ready for the adventure by 5:30 AM.  Suddenly Harshal started gaping at me.

Harshal: Don't you feel cold?
Me: I am freezing buddy. My first rule is "Never Wear Warm Clothes".
Harshal: You gonna freeze to death.
Me: I go till the brim of it :)
Sreenu: Let him get rotten in hell. Don't Bother.
Me: (A gentle Guffaw)

I was on a bike riding at 60 kmph while cold breeze was numbing almost all over my body. My hands nearly went dead couldn't hang on with the handle of the bike anymore. I thought I would lose  control. I could feel the blood coming out of my finger nails. I felt the warm blood rushing in my veins to compensate the cold wind. Both of my friends followed me without asking much questions this time. Perhaps realized the fact that asking me is as vain as asking the cold wind to warm up them.  We passed half the way. I could no longer hold the bike. My fingers almost bled. Though the pain was humiliating I never knew that would occur when you get exposed. I stepped hard on the break pulling over my bike. I was wavering my hands to and fro in simple harmonic motion with maximum possible frequency recollecting an episode from Man Vs Wild. I started thinking why haven't I felt this before though I jog wearing no warm clothes. I guess because my hands wavers producing heat while jogging which is now standstill. My friends come down to me with care and affection parking their bike just beside that of mine.
"My hands especially palms went dead man. I can't ride  now" I screamed with pain.
"Seems like not enough for you dude" Said Sreenu while both laughed.
"No Problem dude. I will ride if you tell me where to go" said Harshal holding my bike's handle.
"Last weekend a village happened to pass by while I was following birds till their nests. That village is called 'FittingPara'. It is nearby. So we keep our bikes at someone's home there. There are awesome hills nearby which we will walk to them and climb. Now just move on" I explained the plan.

Three of us reached FittingPara. Parked our bikes at a home as decided and started advancing towards amazing hills, gleaming with the rays of sun romancing with fog. Tramping through paddy fields and bushes warmed me up spurring my senses from being passive.

Though we didn't expect the monotony to prevail in our expedition, it occurred. A jaunt became a quest for the path that would lead to foot of the hill.  Another village just passed by in our path named Dhegaun. Village was quite pleasant, teeming with pleasing people. Villagers showed us the path that would lead to the hill we were aiming at.

I premise, an attractive peak in India must have a temple to make it commercial. Perhaps some villager could have dreamed a god, ordering him to construct a temple, the peak we were planning to reach also had an unfinished temple. That temple became our target for that day. We waded through shrubs, climbed steep slopes, finally reached our destination.

We exulted with a sense of of success, roared in elation, had limited breakfast with chiki and biscuits which Harshal carried. We started playing around with my new camera clicking all possible postures in panoramic views.  As clock ticked 11:00 AM we commenced our descend. Slowly and steadily we reached the foot . With no intention to leave the place we were marching with turtle steps towards Fittingpara (where we parked our bikes). We saw a throng of villagers were having some fun playing with catapults and sticks. "Even today we got villagers for company dude" I said. "I think they are waiting for us" Seenu replied. "What?? silly" Harshal laughed.

One of the villagers (perhaps the leader) came forward shouting at us "Welcome you fools. We are here to welcome you to our village". "Awesome" I thought. "Are you kidding?? Tell me what the heck are you guys doing here?" I said laughing. "You think I am joking? We are waiting for you guys. In fact whole village with police patrol and jeep. Jail sweet jail is awaiting you as well." he screamed with little anger on his face.  "Situation seems serious dude." I said with others. "Serious?? you guys think this is funny? How could you guys come alone to this place without permission from villagers. We all suspected a naxal threat. Just be quite and follow us. You guys have to pay the price." he said as a few villagers surrounded us with weapons.

Villagers lead us to Dhegaun where we found some people peeping out of their homes, some standing along the path anticipating the presence of terrorists. Apparently, whole village was awake that day quite early and they were panicked. Our unofficial guards carried us to a jeep, with a red siren on its top to hand over us to the official guards; Cops. That moment I understood how rumors propagate. Cops carried us to the police station, followed by a formal interrogation session. Finally the most widespread way out from police worked; Bribery.

"Have you ever been to police station before?" I aksed Harshal.
"No man. You??" He replied.

"Neither do I. I will remember this day.  Do you?" I laughed.

"We all do. We are celebrity figures :P" replied Seenu smiling after recovering from the panic.

As cops didn't not provide us anymore lift once they got their prize in their hands we walked all the way to the home where we kept bikes, thereby left for our homes with little excitement blended with amusement and of course, apprehension for some.

Put up your priority

When a kid does a deed, a grown up comments "That's not right". But seldom the grown up could be able to answer what is right? & what is wrong? This is the question that lingers in everyone's mind once in a while and vanishes without an answer.

Chanakya, the first and foremost management guru, popular for his cunning strategies relates right and wrong with happy and sad by saying "Before you do something to someone, just think how do you feel if the same thing is done the other way round. If you feel happy then something you wanted to do is right otherwise wrong." Chanakya's definition apes this personality, either controversial or convincing. Assuming this world is full of people who belong to the category of 'convincing', I am going to present a story below that needs prioritization from good to bad. I happened to hear this story in a behavioral session where the tutor called my friend & me outside and said "I know you guys don't appreciate what I am doing. So please leave the room. I mark your attendance as present". Save the session I really appreciate the story though it involved little devilry.

    ................... Readers' Discretion is Advised..........................

There is a ship sailing smoothly over a sea, humming with gentle tides and cool breeze. A beautiful bride standing on the deck of the ship, staring at the stars, awestruck by the eternity of the ocean, almost forgets her anxiety and excitement. Waking her up from the reverie, a winter wind from the freezing hills tickles her tiny waist that was exposed. She pulls the pallu of her saree down to shield her waist from the chill. Two hands hug her from behind, uncovering her waist but comforting her with the warmth of love.
Recognizing the familiar fondle, she turns around and says "what a beautiful night!! Giri. Hope it lasts forever."

"Why are you still awake, Geeta?? Not feeling well? or nervous about getting married?" enquired Giri stroking her dark hair.
"Not able to sleep Giri. The thought of getting married fills my heart with an inexplicable feeling, something like disturbed euphoria." she says leaning her head over his chest.
"I am marrying a 26 year old kid. Trust me kid, I take a better care of you forever and ever" he smiles.
"Would you sing a song for this kid to sleep?" she chuckles.
"Not just a song darling, I do anything to comfort you. Let's go and get some sleep. I want this kid to be fresh in the ceremony" he says keeping his arms around her shoulder.
"Please don't sing but one day you should take me to that island, so serene and isolated" she says pointing her index finger.
"Wow!! It is beautiful. I will take you for sure only if you get to sleep now" replies guiding her to the bed room.

When both of them are struggling to grab some sleep for nearly an hour, ship starts to sway. The frequency of the oscillations surge in a rapid pace. Everyone rushed out of there rooms trembling with fear. Captain, a hefty but hideous person famous for his survival in any kind of storms,  starts announcing on a mike  "Mayday!! Mayday!! Fasten your life-jackets". Crew makes preparations for emergency situations. Tides become more and more menacing causing the ship to capsize, allowing hardly anytime for preparations except life-jackets. Captain, Passengers and Crew find themselves floating in a calm sea, watching their medium sized ship sinking slowly and steadily. When everyone was floating and ship was half-sunk, a huge whirl nearby caused strong currents to create chaos, breaking the ship and scattering the people in all possible angles, centered at the whirl. Fortunately current carries everyone to shore as it is not far away. No one was either dead or lost but the trouble gets still worse. Before getting into this issue let me rewind the reel backwards a little, just before the start of journey.

Geeta, Giri (Geeta's Fiance), Govind (Geeta's close friend), Ganapathi (An elderly person), Captain Guna, Gopi and Gopal (crew members) start sailing to a nearby island called Milan, popular for marriages. This island attracts couples of all religions from all over the world. Journey from the adjacent city takes about 3 hrs. There is a petty island, isolated in  between the city and Milan. Geeta and Giri were in love for nearly 4 years. Finally they decided to get married in this island. Family and Friends reached there a night before to make necessary arrangements wrapped with pretty surprises. Geeta, Giri and Govind sail to city to purchase clothes and jewelry. Geeta does a lot of shopping till the upper limits of Giri's credit cards are breached. She adorns a lot of jewelry to glorify herself for this auspicious occasion. Just a couple of hours before the wedding the storm followed by the whirl capsizes the ship dragging Giri, Govind, Gopi and Gopal to city shore, leaving the rest at the isolated island.

(Present......  )

Geeta blinks her eyes recovering from the shock and searches for her fiancee and friend. She notices no one except Captain Guna, preparing a raft binding the scraps of the ship with improvised techniques. "Giri!! Giri!!" She cries summoning all her strength. Tears roll over her cheek with fear of what might have occurred to her beloved Giri and her friend Govind. A pleasant ring from her mobile brings a call from her beloved soothing her sorrow. "Thank god I changed to night dress. Thank god my mobile still works. Thank god it is from Giri." thinks before picking it up.
"Giri!! are you fine?? where are you??" She screams.
"Listen Geeta. I am at city shore Govind is also with me. Where are you??" Giri says with delight.
"I am in the island between city and Milan. Captain Guna and Ganpati are with me." She replies.
"Listen Geeta. There is an announcement of threat of storm. Please get the hell out of there. City is the near shore. Reach here soon. Ask Captain to help you. No matter what it costs I can't lose you. Please." He prays.

Before she opens her mouth to reply him, mobile breaks down leaving the couple worry above each other. Trembling with fear, wiping her tears, she goes to Mr. Ganapati and asks "Are you fine Sir".
"I am absolutely okay kid. Little tired. Nothing to worry" He replies.
She goes to Captain gathering courage she asks "Captain! I wonder whether you can help me cross this barrier. My fiance Mr. Giri is awaiting me. We are going to get married tomorrow"
"Sorry dear. Carrying 2 people on this raft is more or less risking both of our lives." He replies.
"There is possibility of storm here. Please save us Captain." she pleads disliking his dear.
"Whirlpool is always followed by a storm but I can't risk my life saving yours" he says denying.
"I pay you anything you want Captain, money, jewelry if you take that risk" she says convincingly.
"What can you possibly pay a sailor dear. Money & Materials are merely worthless to me. I love roaming. I love the adventure, the thrill. I love rum. I have everything I love with me save the basic needs" he replies staring at her.
"But the first and foremost thing I love is Giri. I don't have him now. More the time I stay here more the chances of losing him. Please!!! I beg you captain" she pleads still disliking his dear.
"I can understand your situation dear but helping you is more or less sacrificing my life. But I am ready to help you with one condition" He pauses.
"What condition? Don't worry tell me Captain" she demands.
"I can't dear. That's just evil." he says bending his head.
"Please captain. How would I know whether I could help you if you don't tell me" she pleads again.
"Fine. Listen dear. I have fallen in love with you in the moment I saw you. The only thing I don't have but I love is a pretty woman like you. I know you can't marry me moreover I premise you don't have good feeling about me as well." he says avoiding the eye contact.
"I am sorry captain. I have been in love with Giri for past 4 years. I am marrying the same guy. I feel very lucky about it. I beg your pardon in this Captain." she replies with little pride on her beauty.
"I knew that dear. But I will be on the verge of killing myself if I help you. So would you mind sleeping with me? Just one time then I guess I will be ready to die. If I survive by any chance I will remember that incident forever as a pleasant dream, I promise I won't let anyone know it except me." he says shyly
"How dare you bastard. You are just evil. That can never happen. You go to hell. I rather die in this storm." she barks with rage.
"Yes. I am evil. But I really love you. I can't sacrifice my life for nothing. There is no other thoughts about it" he replies firmly.

She goes to the elderly person and weeps. "Don't worry kid. We will be saved by the lord. You will marry your loved one perhaps not on the day you intended" he says stroking her hair with his trembling hands like a father.
"I have just spoken with my future husband. He said there could be a storm here soon, prediction by experts and rescue takes more time to reach here. Tomorrow is my marriage." she says wiping her tears.
"It seems our captain is making an improvised arrangement to evade the possible danger. Why don't you ask his help?" he says.
She explains him the whole story and sobs.
"What should I do now? I am going to die soon. No other way." she weeps uncontrollably
"Kid. If you ask me, nothing is valuable than your life. I hope your Giri will understand. But decision is yours. You think of what is more important to you. A nightmare followed by a wonderful life with the loved one or don't sleep at all killing yourself and leaving your beloved in the pool of sorrow. Nothing is perfectly right or wrong here. You just do as your heart says" sighs the old man.

Once her eyes can't shed anymore tears she lifts her head and looks around. She could sense the serenity of the sea. Captain is ready to sail on his improvised raft. He conveys his humble apologies to both of them and sets his sail.

"Wait!! Wait!!" a scream from behind turns him around.
"Just do what you intended. But I want to live. I want to share my life with Giril" she says still weeping.
"Listen dear. I promise that I will be betting my life to save you" says the captain.

Both of them sail after completing the activity quickly. Storm strikes severely in the middle of their journey, making the predictions come true. Pursuing his promise captain saves her life but kills himself in reaching her to her fiance.

Giri finds no limits to his delight as he watches her coming alive out of a storm. Runs towards her, hugs her firmly, lifts her and kisses her on her forehead.
As she frame out in her mind she tells him the truth but says that she still loves him. Without a second thought Giri says "I am sorry Geeta I would say I can't marry you. I can't have you in my life anymore".
"I have done something to save myself and just to be with you Giri. Can't you understand and forgive?" says finding no tears to weep.
Giri leaves without any word. Gonvind comes forward, holds her hand gently and says "Will you marry me Geeta. P.S. I am not making any sacrifice"

The story ends here abruptly with a question, Arrange all G's (except crew members) in the order from good to bad, good being the first and bad being the last.

My order went like this (Buddies pl. confirm)

1) Ganapathi (old man) --------- Did nothing wrong, nothing right.
2) Govind  (Geeta's Friend) --------- Perhaps he had feelings for her. (No one to one relationships in this world, recollect functions in mathematics)
3) Geeta ---------------- Loved Giri unconditionally. Did a sin to save herself and to live with her beloved, with hell lot of regret.
4) Captain Guna ----------------- Though did an evil act, he was truly in love with her, remember he is a sailor.
5) Giri  ---------------- Didn't understand the real essence of relationships, immature and delicate. He should think what he could possibly have done if he had to sleep with a girl to survive?

P.S. An episode in House (Serial) runs on the same grounds, where the husband leaves though she is willing to die to save her relationship with him.

An Unforgettable 10 mins "A Journey to Jharana (Waterfall)

Chapter-1

That was a Sunday, 27th March, 2011. We were seven 1) Jayant Sahoo 2) Prince Raj (our guide) 3)Anil 4) Sreenu 5) Rammohan 6) Suresh 7) Lokesh (myself).
 Prince                                                     Anil

As decided earlier, we started our journey to a waterfall called Jharana. The exact location of the fall, nobody knew. Only respite was one (Prince) in our mob knows the local dialect and got a glimpse of that place far buried in his past memories. None of us were aware of that fact expect one. They thought "We gonna have a trek, visit a waterfall and have fun" while I was thinking " We gonna wander so it is better to be wary".

Journey Begins
We traveled by bikes till the foot of a hill and parked them at a friend's home nearby. The Sun emerged out of horizon, glowing the great mountain right before us with his multi-colored rays. All of us stared at the alluring beauty and started scaling it. Some took strides, some stroll, scaling along the same path but managed to be together within the visible zone. After a few strides Jayant and myself who were leading the team looked back for other companions. Everyone vanished all of a sudden. No sign of any people in the vicinity. Silence loomed the green trees and even a flowing rivulet. I could feel my heart thumping as I knew some secrets about the place. We both took our cell phones out of our pockets clumsily and started calling them on their cell phones. Both of the cell phones beeped in different tones but with a same message that read "No network connectivity". So I asked Jayant sir to sit and relax but be vigilant and went down retracting the path in search of them.

In order to cause no alarm to Jayanth sir, once I had left his sight I ran as fast as I could. Wiping the sweat over my forehead I gazed all around with eyes open wide. Rate of sweating dropped as I found Sreenu climbing up safely but there was no sign of other four.

"Where are others?" I asked Seenu with a haste in my voice.
"They are all worn out. So taking rest a few yards down the path" he replied.
"Fine don't ever be isolated here. Come with me to find them, fast" I shouted and took a trot.
Exactly 2 minutes later I heard some voices either laughing or screaming, I couldn't figure out. As rate of sweating bounced back we ran chasing the unclear voices. We found Suresh and Anil at a distance taking pictures of each other with a board grin on their faces, Prince and Rammohan sitting under a tree, looked tired but unharmed. I thought "Lucky guys as they know nothing :)".

"Having fun folks??" I  roared in delight.
"Yupiee location was beautiful so taking some snaps here" said Suresh.
"Hmm it's been more than 10 mins and millions of photos have been clicked" said Prince.
"Both want to get married ASAP so spending their time on photo shoot" screamed Ramu (Rammohan).
I feared "oh!! getting married?? I wouldn't have called them".
"Oh!! that's wonderful. Let's move on buddies. We got a long way to go" I said.
"We are pretty tired. Let's take a respite for sometime" said Anil.
"Remember friends, initial steps are always tough. If you go down we can't make it to our destination. So get rid of initial inertia, exert all your energies, moreover Jayant sir is waiting there alone. So got to be quick. And never ever be isolated we got to stay together throughout our journey, it's crucial. And don't ask me why is that crucial, it is just a formal precaution" I said.
"I forgot the most crucial aspect, What about our breakfast and lunch?" smiled Anil.
"Arrangements have been made" I shrugged.
"What is there in that huge bag you are carrying and where is it now?" wondered Anil.
"No more questions buddy. Let's climb TOGETHER" I yelled and strided swiftly.

Six of us started our trek. Silence loomed all over the hill again. I almost ran to reach Jayant sir quickly. He was relaxed, sitting at the same location beside my huge bag, peering all around. I felt "experienced, vigilant and of course knowledgeable, happy to have him with us". So the count had become 7 again as we all started our expedition. Gentle breeze tickling our sweaty faces, a petty flow of rivulet down the hill boosting our energy levels, we traveled together with more spirits and hopes.

Just after nearly a pleasant and enthralling 10 minutes, trees started trembling, leaves started shedding, weird noises filled the silent hill and the forest. My heart thumped with tremor.  "Prince it's time" I admonished. He (Prince) took a sharp dagger from his bag while I took a small knife from my huge bag and warned everyone to step back. "Time has come" I pondered. Murmurs began in the troop as everyone trembled with fear. Jayant sir said "Keep quiet guys, we got to be wise here. Back off everyone". He suggested everyone to bend down and stick together and he surveyed the bushes surrounding us as we kept silent like kids listening to a class attentively.

Chapter-2
"It's all clear folks let's move on" declared Jayant.
"You silly, they were just monkeys, make sure we protect our food items" chuckled Anil.
"Yes they were just monkeys, so let's carry some kind of weapon everyone. Prince it's time to warm your dagger up" I smiled. Thought "Glad they haven't seen the terrifying part"
Prince cut some branches and made sort of bludgeons out of them and supplied to everyone.

"It's 8:30 AM let's have breakfast" groaned Suresh.
"Of course, we are too close to an awesome location where we enjoy having our breakfast. It is just 5 mins climb from here" Prince pointing towards the place.

We all reached the place that Prince recommended. It is nothing but the origin of the rivulet that we followed upstream. Much beautiful than what he explained. I opened my huge bag and took a sweet pack and said "Kuch meeta hojai".  Sreenu distributed apples to everyone, while I did the same with biscuits. All ate well filled our water bottles.
"We are weary, feeling sleepy" said Anil and Suresh in unison.
"You guys were tired even before we started" teased Sreenu.
"Yes we are not 'Tiger man (Courtesy: Prayanam movie)' like you" said Suresh.
"Yeah when  Tiger man Sreenu walks clouds separate, I have literally seen clouds moving apart" added Anil.
"By the way Lokesh don't you get tired?" puzzled Ramu.
"Why not?? I am also a human being, just like you. In fact I genetically sweat more and get tired soon" I replied.
"Then how do manage to keep moving?" asked Anil.
"I use a powerful technique. I just imagine my girl is waiting for me at Jharana and keep moving to meet her" I said vehemently.
"If you got feelings for a gal what else could be a better way of utilizing it??" I propounded.
"So are you sure you gonna return?" laughed Jayant sir followed by everyone.
"I just conveyed the fact buddies, every time I imagine the same. Once I reach there, I always wish she were there with me to savor the panoramic view. This is what drives me to complete my last sprint in everyday's jog. By the way once the time arrives to return, it requires a lot of effort to make up my mind to assume that she is there at home, waiting with a cup of coffee :)" I said.
"Wah!! Wa!!! Wah Wa!!" everyone saluted mockingly.

“Who is that lucky gal?” smirked Prince.
“No one, I don’t have a girl friend.” I declared.
“Have you ever spoken unequivocally?” questioned Ramu.
“I love riddles, either to raise or to solve.” I answered.
"Sometimes both??" chuckled Sreenu
“You don’t have a girl friend but you imagine your gal right?” confirmed Jayant sir.
“Yes” I said.
“Then you haven’t proposed her yet or perhaps trying to do so isn’t it right?” shot Jayant Sir.
“Perhaps, It would be wise if I left this question unanswered because a drug that cures 99.99% of a disease can't become an antidote. So I don't prefer dawdling here much. The clock is ticking. Let's resume our journey otherwise we won't be able to accomplish our task." I said and stood up strapping my huge bag  around my shoulders.
"Here goes one more riddle" yelled Anil and Suresh.
"You guys will come across many of them here" I smiled looking at Prince as we exchanged the smiles.
All got up on their feet, some sluggish, some enthusiastic, still no other option but to move on. We had climbed till we reached a flat terrain.
"Yes we reached the summit" I shouted in delight.
"How do you know that it is the peak?" asked Ramu.
"Oh!! That's simple. I could see no upward slope further" I shrugged.
"Dude to be honest, till here I remember" whispered Prince in my ears.
"Try to recollect and move on. Let's not panic our partners but it is time to show something to acclimatize them to the current situation" I said.

Chapter-3

"What is the matter with you guys? Whispering covertly?" urged Anil.
"Nothing" said Prince.
"There is something we have to tell you before moving further" I replied.
"What!! One more riddle?" laughed Ramu.

"Sure. Why not. Actually this time I am going to show it instead of saying it" I shrugged.
"What is that?" asked Sreenu.
"Come with me" I said as I took them to a place nearby.
"Do you have any idea what is this?" I enquired showing a footprint.
"We haven't observed this. Yeah it is a footprint of some animal" panicked Suresh.
"Plausibly it could be of Bear's" revealed Prince.
"He is right. I can show some more evidences if you are interested" said the experienced Jayant.
"Look at those marks on trees, Bears do that. And look at this excreta, full of seeds, This is the season for these and Bears love it" Jayant concluded the presence of Bears.
"But nothing to worry about. We are seven and nobody has ever witnessed a Bear before dusk" I told trying to conceal the deception.
"You are crazy, insane and childlike. What if we come across a Bear? I am not ready to die soon" stammered Anil.
"Anil is right" supported Suresh and Ramu.
"Come on dudes. Don't whine like a girl. Bear will not ramble or hunt in day time and it will never come close to us if we stay together. Despite all if we happen to come across, Janyat sir is well aware of hunting and escaping strategies" I said in a dominating tone.
"That will not happen. If we happen to see a Bear everyone flees while I can't even run fast, eventually become his lunch" said Anil sweating profusely as his pulse rate increased.
"Bear is a vegetarian" smiled Prince. I signaled him  "ushhhhhhhhh " placing my forefinger over my lips.
"It is all your fault that we are in trouble" everyone (Ramu, Anil and Suresh) attacked Sreenu.
"Hey!! It's not my fault. I said that I had no idea where were we going. Still you guys came." screamed Sreenu.
"Leave it guys. I just wanted to provided you some trivial information. Let's forget it and move on" I said.
"We are not ready to go anywhere. Let's go back to our homes" said Anil and sat down.
"Hey listen. I got a family and a kid. I still came. Do you really think there could be something terrifying here?" assured Jayant.
"I don't know sir. I see Bears everywhere now" almost wept Anil.
"We too" shouted Ramu and Suresh.
"Come on guys cheer up. We came this far. Let's complete our job" I said.
"No" said Anil, Suresh and Ramu simultaneously.
"Fine. Let's follow democracy here as well. How many for moving ahead?" I said.
Jayant, Prince and I (3 of us) raised their hands.
"How many against moving ahead?" I asked.
"Anil, Suresh and Ramu (3 of us) raised their hands.
"3 for, 3 against and 1 obstinate" I declared.
"What do you really recommend Mr. Sreenu and Ramu?" I questioned.
"We are still skeptical. But kinda more towards moving ahead as we came this far." they said.
"So sorry Mr. Anil and Mr. Suresh we have to move on. Never fear. We are here for you" I said as we
started our journey on an unknown path.

Chapter-4

An excursion has become an adventurous expedition and gloomy for some. I could almost hear the thumping of some hearts. After about half an hour Prince lost his patience and told me "We are lost dude. I wonder whether I could retrace the path".
"Murphy's law!!" I thought.
"Not now Prince. Let's get deep into shit before we reveal" I smirked.
"I am afraid are we on the right track adding to the fear of Bear" Anil broke the silence.
"What made you think that way? We got a guide here." said Sreenu.
"Because I couldn't see any traces of human movement here" exclaimed Anil.
"He is right" supported Suresh and Ramu again.
"Dude this path is not trampled frequently" Prince assured.
"Only by Bears" I smiled.

A few more minutes passed by. We strayed all over the wood, visited more and more foot prints or signs of Bear. The clock ticked 11 AM. Sun almost reached his zenith, dropping this rays perpendicular to the surface. Forest was dry but dense.  I could fathom from the faces of Anil, Suresh, Ramu and even Sreenu that they were afraid and suspicious. Everybody is hungry and tired as silence loomed all over the hill and the wood.

"I am hungry, let's eat something" murmured Anil as his energy level dropped.
"Before that I would like to reveal the actual riddle we have been trying to solve" I said beckoning everyone.
"No energy left to think" squealed Suresh.
"Don't worry. You all get enormous amount of energy once you hear this" I smiled.
"What is that?" asked Sreenu.
"Has anyone remember the path we came?" I questioned.
"I don't think so. We roamed a lot, took a lot of turns and twists. Everywhere there are trees and bushes. By the way we got our guide right?" answered Anil comprehensively gaining energy.
"That is the riddle. Actually he doesn't know the path but we thought something or the other would turn up to  help us. The outcome is we are lost, completely" I disclosed.
"You idiot, stupid. I already decided that this is going be my final day in my life. Inform my parents if I am gone" cried Anil.
"Enough is Enough kid. Let's try getting the hell out of here" shouted Suresh.
"Come on guys. Accept the challenge. Let's all solve the riddle together. It will be too much fun to know the value of life, food and water" I persuaded.
"Use your democracy technique again" said Anil.
It was a tie again as Sreenu always kept neutral.
"Thank God" I thought.
"So let's begin our quest" I roared.
"I want to live please listen to me. Let's get out of here. I almost had my heart in my mouth. I see Bears everywhere. Now we are lost. No patience to feel anymore shocks" wept Anil.
Finally Ramu, Suresh and Anil sat down protesting in mere democratic way.
"You cowards" I murmured.
"Ok fine. As Jaynat is the eldest. Let's all obey his decision" I told as I called Jayant sir to start the negotiation.
"Don't worry guys. It is just 11 AM in the morning. We can roam till 12 PM and have lunch where ever we are and return back at 1 PM or so. There will be ample time. Meanwhile we could be lucky to find some village/people who could take us to the Jharana or to our homes" Jayant said.
"We are not ready to move a single inch. Let's return" said stubborn Anil.

Auction began to reduce the time span of 1 hr (11 AM to 12 PM) to 30min to 15 min, finally settled at 10 min. We saw a smile on Anil's face after about 2 hrs. I thought we could hardly go anywhere in 10 min, it was all over now and we are going to retreat.

Never believed that 10 min can change our lives. I realized that even a fraction of a second can cause a lifetime impact.

"10 min?? It is negligible. Be practical dude. Let it be 20 min"  I urged.
"Not even a second after 10 min. Your time starts now" said Anil turning the stopwatch on in his mobile.
"It is okay Lokesh. Let us not trouble them much. Let us walk this way for 10 min" Jayant sir checking the directions.
Anil was exuberant, announcing the time left in the interval of 5 seconds. As every minute pass by 3 faces (Anil, Suresh and Ramu) rejuvenated in contrary 3 faces (Prince, Sahu Sir and Myself) became pallid with disappointment and 1 face (Sreenu) kept aplomb.
"9 min and 55 seconds over so last 5 seconds left before we return" Anil cried out in joy.

Chapter-5

"It is all over. Mission abolished. I don't want to retreat. Please!!!!" I despaired.
Either nature or the almighty whoever it might be, heard my voice I guess, a horde of villagers/woodcutters came trampling towards us carrying huge axes over their shoulders.
Expressions on the faces just switched places at the zenith. Pale faces started glowing and glowing faces started getting pale.
"Fortune favours the brave" I thought.
"Prince!! It's our day man. Go and ask them whether they could guide us to Jharana?" smiled Jayant sir.
"No!! ask them whether they could get us the hell out of here. Please..... " pleaded Anil.
"Sure. We explore both the options. As we come this far let's first assess the possibility of visiting Jharana. These people are well acquainted with this place and they can help us to returning as well.   Execution happens only if it is 100% possible and safe to return. Is that fine?" negotiated experienced Jayant sir.
"Ok!! All right. Only if 100% safe." groaned Anil reluctantly.
"Hello folks!! We are actually lost while searching for Jharana. How far is it from here? Could you guys guide us till there?" enquired Prince in vernacular language.
"The way is straight and legible. It is quite far from here, takes 2 hrs by walk. They need to cut wood to feed their family today. So they can't spend much time with us." said prince translating their words.
"No problems. They all don't need to come. Just 2 guys with axes and we pay them 100 each." I said.
Prince conveyed them my words and they agreed happily.
"I got a question for them. Please translate." urged Anil.
"They can fathom Hindi reasonably good." replied Prince.
"Idhar Balu hey kya? (Is there any bear here?)" asked Anil eagerly.
"Balu nahi Bahut Balu hey (Not  bear, there are many bears here.)" one of the villagers replied.
"See let's get out of here. What say?" pleaded everyone for support.
"Dude. We got sturdy company here with axes and all. Nothing to worry. Let's move ahead." Declared Ramu, Sreenu and Suresh in Unison. Anil kept quiet as he became loner.

With villagers as our guides and guards we marched following them. They were fit and fast in walking. We felt like hobbits in Lord of the rings, trotting behind them. I ran behind them to keep everyone on the right path as all of us started exploiting our final and hidden sources of energy in our body cells. Path was pretty clear and legible as they said but not a piece of cake.

"Not any more. I am going to faint. Ask them to reduce the pace." squealed Ramu, the shortest.
"I too" said Anil.
"Let us halt for a while" Prince asked our guides.

It took a few moments to all of us to come together. Clock ticked 12 in the noon. Sun was shining very bright right above our heads, scorching. A splendid hill and wood completely shielded the rays keeping us cool. We have to climb down the hill and bypass the other and climb up another in order to reach the fall. Everybody is exhausted, weary and hungry. What a day it was thought everyone. What was going to happen bothered a few of us. Anil almost drenched in his own sweat but looked relieved.

"I have another question to ask, last one please." pleaded Anil.
"No more man. You just freak everyone out. So better keep them for the evening talk." Jayant sir said.
"Please. I promise. The final one. I will not ask anything any more." beseeched Anil again.
"Not even for lunch" I smirked.
"That is an exception Lokesh. It is fine. Go ahead but keep it simple and harmless." permitted Janyat sir.
"My dear folks. Has ever bear attacked anyone in the day light?" shivered Anil.
"Ever!!! Several times. In fact a bear attacked the priest of the Jharana fatally, where we are going right now." replied villagers in chorus.
"Youuuuu sona.....*** " screamed Suresh at me followed by an apology.
"It's all right. I knew it before but I didn't want to scare you guys." I replied in a poised voice suppressing anger.
"Oh!! Again. Please don't fill your minds with terror guys. Please be cooperative. We gonna celebrate. Trust me in this." tried Sreenu to rekindle the feared ones.
"Are you taking us to sacrifice us to the temple/God over there?"  cried Ramu.
"Hmm back to basics again." I thought and signal the eldest and experienced Jayant sir to take over the issue.
"Listen guys. There is no point in mulling over the same issue again. We came this far and no point it returning back. So the decision is firm and unaltered. We gonna visit Jharana and return safely. Moreover we give more priority to your safety than that of us. Lokesh and myself can assure you that." lectured Jayant that almost incited everyone's mind.
"We can't afford to waste time any more. Let's go." said Prince.
"Yes, let's go." screamed Anil startling everyone.

    Chapter-6

We marched behind our guides for about half an hour. All our energies have been consumed. But the Jharana, an amazing fall beside which a petty flow of water pouring on a Shiva lingam (a representation of lord shiva) as libation. That scene itself reloaded our energy levels to their maximum limits. Smiles occupied over our sweaty faces including Anil's. We paid our guides along with our gratitude and bade them good bye as the path was straight and predictable.

"Let's bathe." called Prince.
"The water was freezing cold." said Sreenu cupping water in his hand.
"Our bodies are fairly warm." I said.
"I can't bathe in this water" whined Anil as expected.

Anil, Suresh and Ramu stood back as Jayant sir, Prince, Sreenu and I undressed and showered under the great fall. Before bathing we swung holding an aerial root of a great banyan tree one after the other to travel back in time, to childhood. The water was freezing cold which produced a thermal shock  once droplets hit our bare bodies. Suddenly all 4 of us had turned out to be the models for 4 different brands of underwears as Anil and Suresh took snaps in various postures. Gradually models got used to the chillness of the water and the merrymaking began.

"I can premise what you see in your reverie" smiled Prince.
"You are genius man." I smirked.
"You are having a great day dude. Hope even this dream would come true today." said Ramu.
"What dream? what's happening?" enquired Sreenu.
"Come on. Lokesh was in day-dream. You remember what he said before? Whom he imagines to be here?" chuckled Jayant sir.
"Yeah .. Yeah I remember. Hope she comes now and have a bathe with you." laughed Sreenu.
"You silly. In front of all you guys?? This has no chances of occurrence." I declared.
"I strongly believe in your luck Lokesh. Wait for some time. It might happen." said Prince.
"Hope so. But trust me in this my wishes never had the luck factor whereas my whims always do. So I stopped trusting luck. As you guys say let there be hope. Let there be light." I sighed.
"Bahuth senti hogaye Lokesh (You became too much sentimental Lokesh)" shrugged Jayant sir.
"Yeah yeah. It doesn't suit me right?" jolted my body and smiled.
"Well done 'genuine jockey'" shouted everyone.
"Enough of playing guys. It is 1:15 PM. Let's all pray Lord Shiva for our safe return and have lunch." screamed Anil.
"This is first time you said right thing at a right time." said Sreenu.

First time in our journey we all obeyed Anil's words and prepared a perfect stage for lunch. I opened my huge bag and started unravelling packages of lemon and curd rice. Anil bought a few packets of peanuts and cashews. He had his contingency plans I thought. While we were dining.....

"Look. Even your wishes are coming true." cried Ramu like a kid found a chocolate.
"What??" said Suresh.
"Look.. Look there." Ramu pointing finger towards the waterfall.
"Hey Lokesh. Who among them is your darling?" asked Prince.
"What nonsense while eating." I said as I gazed at the waterfall.

Chapter-7

A group of village gals came over there by another path and were bathing, triggering all the romantic senses in our bodies. They came all the way from their village to pay  their tributes to Lord Shiva. They were highly devoted that we could read the chants of their minds on their faces. Their commitment and devotion not only put an end to all our lewd views but also made us focus on lunch.

"They are beautiful." said Prince.
"But I feel like bowing them." said Sreenu.
"Yes dude they are not Bikini Babes though they are bathing. It's the beauty of our culture." said Jayant Sir.

"Let's take a short nap before we depart" I sighed as my brain roamed all around, ignited by the tantalizing circumstances.

"What the hell are you doing?" enquired Suresh.
"Collecting all plastic related/non-biodegradable stuff we bought and keeping them back in my bag." I replied.
"But why?" asked Ramu.
"Because I don't want to cause any harm to the forest as far as possible." I replied.
"Strange. Tell me about yourself?" asked Anil.
"Is this kinda HR interview? fine. I completed my Dual Degree from IIT Madras in Civil Engineering. Basically from Andhra now settled in Chennai. You know the story after that." I said
"From IIT Madras to here? Interesting." puzzled Anil.
"Don't panic. It is just a brand only matters if I worth." I replied hiding my agony.
"I tell you something more interesting. Last Sunday he went alone to the top of that hill and came back. You guys still afraid now." said Prince.
"Why did you go alone?" asked Ramu.
"Because no one was interested or dare enough to join me." I replied politely.
"These guys came because I am still alive." I smirked.
"Have you come across any bears?" asked Anil.
"Again???" laughed everyone.
"I wish I had. I tried hard. I found a fox, nothing else." I sighed disappointingly.
"20 more minutes. We have to leave. So take a nap buddies." shouted Jayant sir.

We all gave some relaxation to all our muscles for 20 minutes before warming them up again. It was 2:30 PM. We all packed our bags, tied our shoelaces and marched retracing the path. Path was quite straight and easy to recollect. After 30 mins of walk the path which we thought was right came to an abrupt end. Everyone was startled including I.
"What happened to the path by which we came? We are lost again." squealed Anil.
"I don't think we made any mistakes." affirmed Sreenu.
"I am totally confused." said Ramu.
"Just relax guys. We came too close. Prince, have you been to this place before?" I shouted.
"No. We are lost again." confirmed our full time guide.
"Let's decide on what to do next" said Anil surprising everyone.
"Here you go buddy. I recommend to follow the direction and move on as it is most unlikely to find the right way even if you go back." I said
"Let Jayant Sir decide it as usual." said Suresh.
"Our team is in complete coordination. Let's follow what our crazy guy Lokesh said." declared Jayant Sir.

This time everyone in our team was on the same track. Everyone dares to risk, dares to gamble, fears nothing. There were no guides, no sturdy stalwarts with axes, all we got was hope and courage which we cultivated during our journey. As there was no path we started wading through bushes and thorny trees cautiously in the direction towards the village. No idea who guided us in that direction, our fate or destination. Clock ticked 3:15 PM. Moment that can never be forgotten.  We crossed the path of our quest we guess, a baby bear stood in front of us as silent as death.

Chapter-8

He was of two feet height, three feet wide with attractive azure eyes. He looked beautiful though his body was covered with black fur. A perfect resemblance of a gigantic black teddy bear but alive. He pushed himself up on his back limbs and stared at us with excitement.

"You got a long way to go before you reach our heights baby" I thought.
He didn't even bulge and his tiny eyes never blinked. A stupid spark of temptation reached my head from the toe to go and hug him. But I could sense the fear filled some of my friends particularly Anil that stopped me from being stupid. "Thank god sorry buddies" I thought.

"Let's all close in. Come together." I whispered.
"Fortunately he is small so taking the defensive mode." said Janyant Sir.
"It is most probable that his mother/father would be nearby." I said
"You got the weapon Lokesh. Now... Let's be quick." ordered Jayant Sir.

I ignited a piece of wood, with a proper provision for ignition I was carrying  and threw it near the bear. Bear growled loudly as smoke covered all our the place within seconds. We heard another howl from a Bear probably as a reply from his father/mother.
"This way. fast. run." Jayant sir shouted and ran.

We all ran following Jayant sir by staying as close as possible. Fortune favored us again in 2 aspects. First the direction was towards the destination. Second within 2 mins of run we reached the path we came by in fact in less time. We stopped and marched quickly till we reached the place where we had our breakfast. We inspected all around. No signs of Bears and no noises as well.

"I thought we were going to die." said Suresh.
"I almost had my heart in my mouth." said Anil who drenched in his own sweat for the 3rd time.
"A day that can never be forgotten." said Sreenu.
"I just have to kick your a** for risking our lives." said Ramu.
"Let's have snacks now." I smiled.
"Snacks?? Now??? here?? Are you gone nuts?? Get the hell out of here fast." stammered Anil.
"Look. Village is nearby. Let's celebrate our victory here." said Jayant Sir and took a cake and a candle out of his bag.

"Black Forest from Ans (A 3 stared restaurant in neighboring town)" said Jayant.
"Forest again?" exhaled Ramu.
"Not just black without a Bear" smiled Prince.
Jayant Sir blew the candle, cut the cake and distributed the pieces and urged everyone to share their experience as briefly as possible checking his watch.

"I never knew Ans makes cakes." exclaimed Suresh.
"Anyway this forest is delicious." said Seenu.
"Both the forests were." I said licking my fingertips (right hand only :P).

"We are running out of time and moreover we would like to see the evening show. So let's start with Anil." said Jayant sir pointing his finger towards Anil.

Anil: First I thought it would be a pleasant journey. In the middle came to know it was kinda quest and adventurous. Feared like hell for my life. But I imagine myself in this kinda situations whenever I watch a thriller though I am basically timid. That fantasy came true. Thanks for that but not again.

Suresh: You are still kid Lokesh. Don't risk our lives again. But it was thrilling and unforgettable.

Ramu: As I said I have to kick your a*** kid. You are crazy and little insane. Though a great experience not again.

Sreenu: I suspected that you would do something crazy but this is far beyond what I had in mind. I loved it. Do call me if you go again.

Prince: Sorry as I did fail as a guide. I had no intention to make you struggle. I remember this forever. Lokesh call me whenever you make such kinda of trips. I got to reduce my weight at least. :P

Jayant sir: I am not new to this kinda trips. I have been to hunting and all. Still I remember those 10 minutes.

Lokesh: I am so sorry to trouble you guys. I want you to know that I got no intention to harm you by any means. I thought you guys would be excited to have such experiences. I hope we all will remember those 10 mins for the rest of our lives that changed our course of journey from frivolous to adventurous.

We climbed down, took our bikes and reached home with the memoirs of Jharana carved in our  minds permanently.
